Gianetta Baril, a Wayfaring harpist

I am very lucky to know my brave friend Gianetta Baril, and honored to have written her a piece a few years ago, so foretellingly titled “Wayfaring,” for harp and saxophone with Jeremy Brown.  Her concert tomorrow, titled Wayfaring (!) brings it all together, –see below!–and will also be live-streaming at: https://www.concertwindow.com/gianettabaril.

INSTRUMENTAL SOCIETY PRESENTS:

Wayfaring

With harpist Gianetta Baril and Friends

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2015 – 3 pm

St. Stephen’s Anglican Church

1121 – 14 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB

Exploring thoughts on Wayfaring through music and pictures Juno Award-winning harpist extraordinaire Gianetta Baril returns to the ISC in a performance celebrating her ten-month, 70,000 km journey around the world. In the Fall of 2014, Gianetta set aside her harp, gowns and high heels in exchange for a backpack and hiking sandals. Stripped of familiar “definitions” of herself, she set out alone to explore new cultures and languages and physical and emotional challenges. Embracing endless opportunities like coral farming in Fiji, rice harvesting and mud shelter construction in Nepal, to establishing two harp programmes in the slums of Rio, resulted in a ground-shifting, profound experience. Gianetta is excited to share her thoughts on Wayfaring through music, pictures and personal reflections, inviting the audience to be part of an ongoing journey of discovery.

Joined by good friends and colleagues Lucie Jones, flute, Jeremy Brown, saxophone, Timothy Schantz, tenor and former harp student, Scott Ross-Molyneux, the programme reflects her multi-cultural journey of a lifetime. From the brilliance of a musical sunrise to the unaccustomed colours of the raga, the heat of tango and Brazilian bossa nova, this will be a concert full of surprises. Come wearing comfortable clothes, and be ready for an unexpected journey.

Tickets can be reserved in advance by phone at 1-844-598-1273 and online, or purchased at the door. Single tickets are $15/ $25 and $60 for a family pass. We accept cash, cheques and major credit cards. For ticket purchase inquiries, please contact boxoffice@instrumentalsociety.ca.
