Escape from the Reavers

I composed this work during an 8-day period as part of the 2007 NYU/ASCAP Foundation Film Scoring Workshop in New York. The highlight of the workshop was the performance of the work for recording (with me conducting!) by an orchestra of studio musicians, who very experienced with this sort of thing, sounded this good on only their second reading.

The exercise of the workshop was to compose a film music cue for a scene from the feature film “Serenity,” in which the heroes are escaping in a flying vehicle from subhuman villains, dealing with some emotional complexities in the process. I composed the work with the intention of it being able to also stand alone as a miniature concert work.
